Discovering longevity through travel: a personal journey to japan
In the pursuit of longevity, each journey offers a new perspective. Recently, we revisited Japan, an experience that vividly illustrates how our perceptions and priorities evolve over time.
In 2006, at the age of 42, we set out for Japan with the typical curiosity of youth. Eager to explore everything we had heard and seen, we limited ourselves to two cities. The discovery was monumental; each day, we were surprised by entirely new aspects of the country. Our passion for Japan was born there, amidst stunning landscapes and a rich culture that deeply fascinated us.
Seventeen years later, in 2023, at the age of 59, we returned with a more mature and conscious approach. Over the years, we have learned to cherish every detail of the journey. The itinerary was meticulously planned to include moments of rest, activities tailored to our tastes, and a deeper exploration of local customs, especially in cuisine and social customs.
Age brought with it not only experience but also a renewed sensitivity to others.
Throughout the journey, we reflected on the passage of time by comparing photographs from 2006 and 2023. The visual comparison highlighted not only the physical changes in ourselves — including graying hair and increasing closeness — but also the technological advancements in image recording that have enhanced our ability to capture and preserve memories.
Our focus shifted from purely personal exploration to a deeper connection with the people we encountered. We learned to appreciate human encounters more and the exchange of experiences, something that Japan, with its welcoming and respectful culture, facilitated exceptionally.
One of the most striking discoveries of this journey was visiting museums dedicated to longevity, where we could learn from children and adults about healthy practices and innovative technologies that promote lifelong well-being.
Meeting people of all ages who embody the principles of longevity reinforced the idea that Japan is synonymous with a long, healthy life. From their diet and exercise habits to their strong social connections and use of advanced technology, these individuals provided invaluable insights into living a fulfilling life.
Our experiences in Japan also taught us the importance of gratitude. We learned to appreciate the small moments and the kindness of strangers, realizing that gratitude plays a crucial role in achieving a sense of fulfillment and happiness.
This attitude of gratitude has become an integral part of our lives, shaping how we view our experiences and interact with others.Furthermore, despite our familiarity with Japan, the country never ceased to amaze us. Each visit revealed something new and wondrous, reaffirming that there is always something to be dazzled by. Whether it was the serene beauty of a hidden garden, the intricate craftsmanship of a traditional tea ceremony, or the heartwarming hospitality of the locals, Japan continuously offered moments of awe and inspiration.
In summary, our journey to Japan was not just a journey through time but an enriching exploration of how age shapes our experiences and perspectives. Each visit taught us something new about ourselves and the world around us, reinforcing the idea that longevity is not limited to the time we live but to the depth with which we live each moment.
