When I moved to Portugal, I’ve adopted Bella, a dog who quickly became a cherished member of the family. Bella has brought so much happiness in countless ways—helping us navigate tough times and adding an extra layer of joy to our everyday lives.
Anyone who owns a pet knows the profound impact they can have. Perhaps that’s why animal videos dominate our social media feeds—they capture the special bond that many of us share with our furry companions. For those who can relate to this connection, having a dog or cat can truly make a world of difference.
When Antonie stumbled upon Ericeira Paws on Instagram, we couldn’t resist getting involved to help all those dogs and cats in need. If you’re an animal lover, read on—you might just feel inspired to join the adventure!
Meet with Ericeira Paws:
Ericeira Paws was born from the passion and dedication of Stasya and Patricia, whose immense love for animals and determination to make a difference led them to support dogs and cats from one of the public shelters in the Mafra area. These animals, confined to small cages, lack the freedom, care, and affection they deserve.
This project thrives thanks to a devoted team of volunteers, who work tirelessly to make life better for the shelter animals. Three times a week, these wonderful individuals walk the dogs, giving them a taste of freedom, along with nutritious food, cozy blankets, tasty treats, and—most importantly—plenty of love and attention.
Today, Ericeira Paws carries out various activities to help improve the lives of these animals: – Adoption events, in collaboration with Apets, where dogs meet their potential forever families. – Training sessions, with the help of trainers who work on improving dog behavior. – Donation drives, providing better food, medical treatments, and supplies. – Photoshoots, helping to showcase each animal’s unique personality and increase adoption chances. – Foster programs, connecting animals with loving temporary homes. – Adoptions, both locally in Portugal and internationally.
